Evergreen by Susan May Warren

Evergreen (Christiansen Family, #3.5)Book Description:
An empty nest has Ingrid Christiansen dreading the upcoming holidays, but her husband, John, couldn't be more excited about this new season of life. He even has a surprise trip abroad planned. He's sure she'll love it. What's more romantic than Christmas in Paris? Before he can stop her, however, Ingrid agrees to spearhead a major church project. Then their faithful dog, Butterscotch, needs emergency surgery, draining their savings. And then--because disasters strike in threes--an unexpected guest arrives, dredging up old hurts. As a beautiful blanket of snow transforms the north woods into a winter wonderland, a deep chill settles over John and Ingrid's marriage. With the holidays fast approaching, their only hope of keeping their love evergreen depends on turning the page on the past and embracing a new chapter of their future.

My Thoughts:
This is a good novella.  I love Susan May Warren's books and couldn't wait to read this one.  John and Ingrid are 'empty nesters' now and John is ready to enjoy it.  This book shows exactly why couples go their separate ways after their children leave.  If you don't focus on being a couple throughout the 'kid' years then there is always going to be something missing when they leave.
I like how the author makes you both love and want to smack the characters.  Each had their faults and had their good attributes but I rooted for them throughout.  I wanted their marriage to work no matter what came at them because despite everything, they do love each other.  They just need to realize what each of them need and work together.  The author tackled a touchy subject and did a great job.
5/5 for me.  I love it. Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via bookfun magazine).  I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
